It's an awesome sound when done at the right time. Dec 31, 8. Nice Robert Cray vid. To my ears, "quack" sounds more like "honk. Dec 31, 9. Posts: 13, The pickups aren't out of phase with each other in the 2 and 4.

It's just two pickups that are pretty much the same type being close to each other. Frequency cancellation. Dec 31, I wanted a "Quack Monster" Strat set-up. That for me is the perfectly balanced "fat Strat"set up - SRV wailin' fat neck pup, very vintage sounding middle pup, and an outstanding "Strat bridge lead tone" pickup, with loads of quack and cluck on positions 2 and 4. Messages 7, I do the same as citizenkane - tone on neck and bridge only, and lower the bass sides of all 3 pickups a bit Good Luck, Dana O. VanStone Member. K-man said:. I have more available too with a bridge blender pot and a no-load tone control that takes the tone pot out of the circuit when rolled all the way to Troubleman said:. Rockin J Member. Messages 2, I suppose that just having the tone controls to the neck and the bridge pickups only, the middle pickup would still be affected by either the neck or bridge tone control in the 2 or 4 switch position.

It would only be tone control free when using the middle pickup by it's self 3 position. JimmyR Member. Well if the original poster's Strat is an ash body which it may well be the quack factor will already be enhanced. Esp if reasonably lightweight. What I find to be another effective - and simple - method of enhancing quack is to roll off the volume a bit using standard strat wiring. All the 70's strats i've ever played had super quack in them, in a way it makes them sound very funky and gritty.

I dont think anything is a given, you really have to try different models, and the different pickups to hear what appeals to you more. So in other words not all quack is created equally. The "quack" sound on strats is all the pickup right? Start new topic.
