He discovered Jerry had poisoned the Port Charles water supply to demand a hefty ransom. He was engaged to Brenda at the time, but she dumped him for Sonny again. This, again, was a way for Sonny to drive Jax out of town again.
Jax returned to Port Charles in May of to support Josslyn after the death of her boyfriend, Oscar. Jax hired Curtis to work in security at Aurora, but Curtis was really working for Valentin Cassadine to dig up dirt on Jax.
It was revealed that Jax had files on Valentin and Cassandra Pierce , and when Hayden Barnes returned to Port Charles, it turned out she and Jax were secretly working together with Nikolas Cassadine to uncover a secret codicil to a will that would take the Cassadine family fortune away from Valentin.
When Carly discovered that Nikolas was really alive, Jax begged her to keep quiet, and their secret caused some friction between Carly and Sonny. Having already offered Nina a shoulder to cry on after she left Valentin at the altar, Jax grew closer with her and they shared a romantic dance and a kiss. Jax offered to help Nina find her long-lost daughter, and found the jeweler who had created the heart pendant which gave them a solid lead.
But Nina was furious at being kept from her child who was now dead so she dumped Jax and lashed out at Carly. Eventually, Jax tracked Nina down in Nixon Falls, and when he was shot during a town dance, was stunned to spot Sonny there! After Nina tried to shoo him away again, Jax was stunned to come face-to-face with a very-much-alive Sonny!
Sonny regained his memories and everyone returned to Port Charles. Not even Carly's attempt at stopping their ceremony with news that Corinthos' son, Dante Falconeri Dominic Zamprogna , had been named on Alec's birth certificate as the child's father could ruin the wedding.
Following Sonny and Brenda's nuptials and merry reception, they prepared to drive off together. Brenda settled into their limo alone, but Sonny delayed getting in so he could grab a key from Luke Spencer Anthony Geary and hug his daughter, Kristina Lexi Ainsworth. As he turned to join his bride, the vehicle exploded via SoapHub.
It was a similar plot twist to one the show had used before and caused the soap opera-focused website Serial Drama to refer to Bob Guza, the "General Hospital" head writer at that time, as "a miserable hack.
Sonny soon rescued Brenda, and it was revealed that Aleksander was Alec's biological father. The limo explosion was a shocking start to Brenda and Sonny's marriage and would presage a brief and tumultuous union that would end a few months later.
Sonny is not the forgiving kind. Sonny demands loyalty and Nina cannot provide that. Could Sonny walk away and hand the business over to Jason? She managed to warn Jax, but Alcazar still shot and paralyzed him. Brenda helped Jax recover, which made his wife, Skye Quartermaine, jealous.
Not wanting to hurt Jax, Brenda got Jason to agree to marry her, which he did to keep her away from Sonny, who was now married to Carly Benson. When Alcazar was killed, Brenda and Jason were arrested for his murder but soon cleared. As she was preparing to marry Jax again, Brenda forgave Sonny for leaving her waiting at the altar years ago and they shared a passionate kiss which Jax later learned of.
Crushed, Brenda decided to leave Port Charles and Jason took her to the airport to escape. They also discussed a baby, which she admitted she had lost. Sonny proposed, and Brenda was thrilled to finally become his wife.
At the ceremony, Brenda came clean before Carly could and told Sonny about the baby. Dante interjected that he claimed paternity but it was not his child.
