What does this mean, I hear you ask? The answer is that the cheese biscuit scent is not only bad, but so opposite to the fairly delightful cheesecake scent that it's a bit of a strange experience. Going from one scent to the other is like receiving an actual cheesecake of your favourite flavour, only to discover someone has lightly sprinkled mature cheddar across the top of it. Maybe that's something you enjoy though - if so, you'll love this pen.
Teriyaki Burger So whilst the cheesecake pen is one of two very different halves, the Teriyaki Burger is a bit more honest with its savoury scents.
The teriyaki side is a lot more of a pleasing smell than you might expect however, with the illustration seeming to suggest that this is some form of 'honey' teriyaki, with hints of the previous honey toast pen emerging here.
The burger smell, however, is a completely original flavour that smells exactly like what you might expect from some char-grilled beef with condiments and toppings. It's not exactly a bad smell, but much like the cheese biscuits flavour, it is definitely a really weird experience to detect such a scent from the end of your highlighter pen. But if you're really into burgers, why not give it a try?
Cheese Potato Here we are at the final pen, which is aptly named 'cheese potato'. The ketchup smell is what you might be expecting, and the likeness to real ketchup was somewhat worrying - I immediately became concerned that the highlighter itself was somehow made out of solid ketchup, or something it isn't.
And just when you thought we were done with the sad smell of artificial cheese that was so clearly not necessary on the 'cheesecake' pen, it returns here in a worse form for the yellow highlighter. I don't know if it's a mind trick or if there is a geniune difference, but it seemed so much worse than the 'cheese biscuits' version. I didn't want to return to the cheese pens to confirm if there was any real difference in their scents, but all I can say is this: if you really like cheese, you might enjoy this - it smells a lot like the flavouring of some 'cheese puffs' or similar cheese-flavoured snacks.
A lot of Team Tofu are not into it including myself as you can probably tell but I'm sure it's the perfect highlighter for a discerning cheese fan. Just don't bring it near me, please. Anyway I try to describe it, its quite unique. Since its a semi-solid material, the more its used, it will wear down so the bottom end of the pens has a twist mechanism to advance the Gel to the end like a twist mechanical pencil.
Did I mention that the highlighters smell like gummi bears?!?!? That said, theses highlighters really do what they claim which is that they do not smear when applied over ink. Not fountain pen your results might vary here as I did not test every fountain pen ink available , not felt top or gel pens. Not even pencil.
I really like that Sharpie has attempted to rethink the highlighter, especially in light of how often gel pens are used these days and how easily some inks are to smear with traditional highlighters.
Not that I can tell, no. I use several brands of gel highlighter, but Sharpie is pretty good. Gels are great on onion skin paper and wet inks. Wow, very intriguing. I dislike how my highlighters like to dry out, and maybe these gel ones would be less prone to doing so. That said, a gel highlighter is more transparent than a dry, and kinder to thin paper than a wet.
